]]>Great points on WIP and great video. (But don’t quit your day job just yet.) Like you, I now look on the mountains of WIP in most processes with great shame. In fact it was only about 15 years ago that I used to look on the same mountains with great pride. Now I understand how much cash they consume and how many problems they hide.
A while back, I worked for a really great Lean manager who always used to introduce himself like this: “Hi, my name’s Dave. I spent the first 15 years of my career making the biggest batches I knew how. I’ve spent the last 20 years undoing all the damage I did.” I think he pretty well nails it for a number of us there.
