I like the example but I love your questions!!
It is a reminder for each of us, at a personal and organization level, to reflect how are we setting our expectations for ourselves and others.

Once I learned, ‘A fish rots from the head down’ and your story illustrates what happens when we don’t do enough.

Thanks for sharing.

Best regards,
Jaime

And we blame the failures of American manufacturing on the production workers??? How do you fix bad leadership???

Sadly, like you, I’ve seen then same thing happen over and over again. I’m not sure what’s sadder. Is it the folks who lost their jobs (needlessly) because nobody in management wanted to try to actually improve the process? Is it the fact that the same inadequate process was simply picked up and transplanted to a lower wage country to save money quickly? Or was it that management probably got rewarded for both?

Fortunately, I think more and more companies are starting to realize that the extra effort involved in improving the process is actually far more worthwhile in the long run for all involved. At the same time, the downside to off-shoring has become much clearer. For folks like us, it’s about time!

Tom
